Our mission at The Funeral Leader has always been to provide expertise, ideas, and advice to deathcare industry professionals to help them take their firms to the next level.

Throughout the pandemic, we’ve deeply admired the dedication and perseverance those in our industry have shown — and we know this commitment began back in mortuary school.

That’s why we decided to launch our first-ever contest aimed at promoting the 57 accredited mortuary schools across the country.

While there could only be one winner, we have truly enjoyed reading stories from the students, teachers, and alumni who have represented their mortuary schools. We also want to thank everyone who participated and engaged with us through The Leader’s Facebook page.

We’re beyond excited to announce our contest winner: American Academy McAllister Institute (AAMI)!

AAMI has a long history leading the way in the funeral industry and effectively preparing its students for licensure and, ultimately, successful careers in funeral service. Its mission began in 1926 with Professor John McAllister whose principles in life were simple: studying and teaching. The McAllister School of Embalming and the American Academy of Embalming and Mortuary Research later merged to create what we know today as AAMI. Over the span of 90 years, AAMI has educated over 10,000 men and women.

As part of our contest, we interviewed several funeral directors about their mortuary school experiences, including AAMI graduate Connor Moloney. Click here to watch.

AAMI will receive a $500 scholarship from The Leader, along with a feature of one of their professors or staff members in our publication.
